Namita Thapar Addresses Online Backlash

New Delhi: Namita Thapar, who serves as a judge on Shark Tank India and is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, recently responded to criticism she received online regarding her comments about the health advantages of namaz, which she shared on Instagram in March.

Following her post, Thapar and her mother faced a barrage of abusive remarks, prompting her to speak out against what she described as selective outrage.

She highlighted that her previous statements about the benefits of Surya Namaskar did not elicit the same level of backlash.

In a video message, Thapar, identifying herself as a healthcare professional and a proud Hindu, stressed that religion should embody respect, particularly towards women, and urged individuals to stand against disrespect.

She warned the trolls to 'continue at your own discretion,' emphasizing that actions have repercussions.

"I was taught that 'R for Religion' signifies 'R for Respect.' Is this what respect entails, especially for women? When women are disrespected, why is there silence?" she questioned, encouraging people to advocate for themselves.

Thapar reiterated her message to trolls to 'continue,' but reminded them that their actions carry consequences, referencing the principle of karma.

Thapar acknowledged that while she has faced trolling over the years, the intent behind her message was to inspire others to speak out against injustice 'for the sake of humanity and patriotism.'
