Nagarjuna's Villainous Debut in 'Coolie'

Chennai: Actor Nagarjuna is stepping into uncharted territory with his first-ever role as a villain in the action thriller Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring the legendary Rajinikanth. During a recent filming session, Nagarjuna shared a revealing moment when he questioned Lokesh about the nature of evil after shooting a particularly intense scene.

At a pre-release gathering for Coolie, Nagarjuna recounted, "Our initial shoot was in Vizag. Unfortunately, a scene from our second day was leaked online, which was disheartening. After viewing that scene, I asked Lokesh, 'Can people really be this evil?' His response was chilling: 'They are even more evil than this.'"

Nagarjuna expressed admiration for Lokesh, describing the experience of working with him as a dream come true. He highlighted the director's empathy as a remarkable trait, stating, "This quality makes people eager to collaborate with him again."

The anticipation surrounding Coolie is palpable, with industry whispers suggesting that the film could be released in over 100 countries when it premieres on August 14 this year.

In addition to Rajinikanth, the film boasts a stellar cast, including Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.

Anirudh is responsible for the film's music, marking his fourth collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The cinematography is handled by Girish Gangadharan, while Philomin Raj takes care of the editing.

Fans are particularly excited as Coolie will reunite Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth after nearly 38 years. The duo last appeared together in the blockbuster Mr Bharath, released in 1986, where Sathyaraj portrayed Rajinikanth's father. Notably, Sathyaraj had previously declined roles in Rajinikanth's films like Enthiran and Sivaji.

The storyline of Coolie revolves around gold smuggling. Interestingly, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has confirmed that this film will stand alone and is not part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
