Mystery Surrounds Keonjhar Headmaster's Disappearance Amid Misconduct Allegations
Headmaster on the Run After Allegations
In Hatadihi, Bhagirathi Kabi, the headmaster of Brahmanikala High School in the Keonjhar district, has been missing for over 45 days amid serious allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a female student. A formal complaint (146/2025) was lodged at the Nandipada police station, prompting Kabi to flee to avoid arrest.
Despite ongoing police investigations, Kabi's whereabouts remain unknown. Following the inquiry, a report has been forwarded to the Education department as instructed by District Education Officer Purnachandra Bariha, who has also requested a response from Kabi. Community members have accused the school management committee, particularly its chairman Paramananda Behera, of providing Kabi with extended leave to protect him, citing their close relationship. Behera has characterized the leave as a 'no work, no pay' policy and dismissed the claims as unfounded.
Kabi initially sought anticipatory bail from the Orissa High Court (Case No ABLAPL 6806/2025) on May 30 but later withdrew his request on June 20. He refiled for bail on July 11, with the application being registered on July 17 (Case No. ABLAPL 8421/2025). The lack of significant disciplinary measures against Kabi has led to public frustration. Authorities believe that questioning the committee chair could be instrumental in tracking down the missing headmaster.
