In a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the shooting incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Mumbai, authorities have apprehended the shooter responsible for the attack that occurred two months ago. The arrest was executed by a collaborative effort between the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Thursday. The suspect has been identified as Pradeep Kumar, also known as Gaath, and was taken into custody in the Chhadami Mattha area along the Agra-Etah road at approximately 3:56 PM.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The accused, who hails from Ashok Nagar in Agra, was reportedly influenced by the Lonkar gang's activities on social media platforms, prompting him to target Shetty. During initial interrogations, he confessed to collaborating with accomplices named Sunny, Deepu, and Sonu to assert their dominance in the criminal underworld.
Previously, on March 21, the Mumbai Crime Branch, with assistance from the UP STF, detained a 14th suspect in the case, identified as Golu Pandit, who was among the unidentified attackers. Additionally, police traced the Honda Dio scooter used in the shooting back to a man from Pune, who had purchased it four months prior. This individual sold the scooter to Aditya Gayaki, one of the arrested suspects, for Rs 30,000, and obtained his signature on a blank piece of paper. Gayaki and another suspect, Samarth Pomaji, left the scooter at a designated location in Juhu, Mumbai, under the direction of Shubham Lonkar.
Further Developments in the Case
Meanwhile, five individuals detained in connection with the incident have been brought before the Criminal Court. Their attorney claims they have no ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and are unaware of the shooting. The police have been granted a four-day custody extension for the accused, who have expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
For context, on February 1st, gunmen fired four shots outside the residence of the Bollywood director. Following the incident, extensive police security was established around Shetty's residence in Juhu, with police and forensic teams conducting a thorough investigation of the scene. Authorities are exploring all possible leads to identify those responsible for the shooting, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
