Exciting Workshops at MIFF 2023


The 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is gearing up to host a series of engaging filmmaking workshops from June 16 to June 20. These sessions, running daily from 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM, will offer a unique chance for film students, budding creators, and cinema lovers to interact with industry veterans.


Launching the workshop series on June 16 is the acclaimed screenwriter Biplab Goswami, known for his work on the popular film "Laapataa Ladies." His session will focus on the nuances of screenwriting, narrative development, and the craft of creating unforgettable characters, promising an enriching experience for attendees.


On June 17, the spotlight will be on Modhura Palit, a Cannes-winning cinematographer, who will conduct a workshop centered on cinematography and visual storytelling. The following day, June 18, will feature veteran editor Deepa Bhatia, who will impart her knowledge on film editing and the vital techniques that shape cinematic narratives.


Filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan will take over on June 19, sharing insights from his extensive career directing over 75 documentaries. His session is expected to provide practical advice and personal stories that aspiring filmmakers can utilize in their creative endeavors. The series will conclude on June 20 with Anand Pandey, who will discuss the influence of Artificial Intelligence in content creation, covering its effects on animation, storytelling, and the wider creative industry.


Prakash Magdum, the Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), highlighted the workshops' aim to create an open and inclusive space for emerging filmmakers. He remarked, "This initiative aims to offer a platform for learning directly from experts who have made significant contributions to storytelling in our nation." These workshops are set to be a key feature of this year's MIFF, organized by the NFDC under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, focusing on documentaries and short films.
