Monalisa Reflects on Bhojpuri Cinema: A Call for Change in Music and Pay Disparities
Monalisa's Journey in Entertainment
Monalisa has been a significant presence in the entertainment industry for nearly three decades. Known for her role in Bigg Boss season 10, she has made a name for herself in both Hindi and Bhojpuri films. Recently, she participated in an exclusive interview on Zindagi Uncut, where she opened up about her experiences in the Bhojpuri film sector.
Addressing Double-Meaning Songs in Bhojpuri Cinema
During the interview, Monalisa was asked about the changes she wishes to see in the Bhojpuri film industry. She noted that while some transformations are already happening, there is still work to be done. Reflecting on her career, she mentioned that Bhojpuri cinema has produced many unique and quality films and songs. She stated, "There was a time when some albums started featuring double-meaning songs. Because of this, I think the industry began to be judged by outsiders. That’s not good. I want to change that. Definitely, those songs should not be made."
(Loose translation: There was a phase when some albums began to feature double meaning songs. As a result, I believe people started to judge the industry. That is not favorable. I would like to see that change. Certainly, those songs should not be produced.)
Income Disparities in Bhojpuri Cinema
As the discussion continued, Monalisa acknowledged the pay gap between actresses and actors in Bhojpuri films. She shared that although she received numerous offers in the Bhojpuri industry, financial gain was not her main concern at the time. "I used to get 10-12 films a year. But I didn’t earn much. My proper earnings came from the TV industry, especially after Bigg Boss in 2016," she explained.
Recent Projects
On the professional front, Monalisa recently appeared in The 50, where she participated alongside her husband, Vikrant Singh Rajpoot.
