Mona Singh's Powerful Role in Kohrra Season 2: A Deep Dive into Dhanwant Kaur
Mona Singh Takes on a Challenging Role in Kohrra
Mona Singh has joined the Kohrra series in its second season, portraying Sub-Inspector Dhanwant Kaur, who investigates the murder of Preet Bajwa in a barn in Punjab. As a determined officer, she grapples with the loss of her son and the absence of her husband. Mona's approach to her character emphasizes authenticity, aiming to present a realistic depiction of female police officers. In a recent interview, she described Dhanwant as ‘a product of her own environment’.
Mona Singh Discusses the Realism of Dhanwant Kaur
In an exclusive conversation, Mona expressed, “Understanding the complexity of silence was crucial for me. Dhanwant exists in a realm filled with loud and aggressive personalities. Her strength lies in her restraint. She embodies resilience and observation, carrying the essence of Punjab within her. In a law enforcement context, particularly in Punjab, where masculinity is often glorified, she faces immense pressure to solve a challenging case while frequently having her abilities questioned, often without support from her superiors.”
Mona further elaborated, “This constant need to prove oneself adds depth and freshness to the character. Unlike many portrayals of women in uniforms, who are often depicted as larger-than-life figures, Dhanwant's character brings a sense of realism and rawness that resonates well with the audience.”
Mona Singh's Research on Female Police Officers
When asked about her research process, Mona revealed, “I did meet female police officers in Punjab to learn from their experiences. Their primary concern is to be recognized simply as cops, rather than being labeled as women cops. The challenges they face are significant, especially in a male-dominated field. This understanding shaped my portrayal of Dhanwant.”
