Chhillar's Bold Statements on Gender Bias

New Delhi: Actress Manushi Chhillar has voiced her concerns regarding the disrespect often directed towards working women, particularly in the entertainment sector, contrasting this with the treatment of their male counterparts.

Crowned Miss World in 2017, Chhillar made her acting debut in the film "Samrat Prithviraj" alongside Akshay Kumar in 2022. She took to her X account on Saturday to share her thoughts.

At 28, Chhillar reflected on her upbringing in a supportive and educated setting where equality was emphasized. However, she acknowledged the prevalent mindset that often labels successful men as 'hardworking and talented' while women are unfairly categorized as 'opportunists or gold diggers.'

She stated, "A misogynistic mindset finds it easier to attribute a woman’s success to a man’s patronage than her own merit. I’ve always ignored trivial comments that lack real-world impact, yet I frequently observe working women, particularly in entertainment, being treated with disdain."

Chhillar questioned the existence of a 'deep-rooted bias,' asking, "Is it simply that if you hear something negative about a woman, it’s from another woman who envies her or a man who desires her? Or is there a deeper issue at play?"

Looking ahead, Chhillar is set to appear in the films "Maalik" with Rajkummar Rao and "Tehran" alongside John Abraham.
