New Delhi: Lyricist and writer Manoj Muntashir recently defended the music he created for Adipurush, amidst social media discussions comparing it to the upcoming film Ramayana. He acknowledged that while the 2023 film was poorly received and its dialogues were criticized, the quality of the songs remains unquestionable.
Adipurush, directed by Om Raut and featuring Prabhas, has sparked renewed conversations online as users draw parallels with Ramayana, a high-budget adaptation of the Hindu epic set to release on November 5, starring Ranbir Kapoor.
The soundtrack for Ramayana, featuring compositions by renowned Oscar-winning artists A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer, was recently unveiled, garnering a mixed reception from audiences.
In response to an online report on X, Muntashir addressed claims that the backlash against the song "Mangal Rang" from Ramayana echoed the controversies surrounding Adipurush. He stated, "If only my style of songwriting had been replicated in the songs of Ramayana. While Adipurush was a disappointing film with even worse dialogues, its songs are beloved by children across the nation. Visit Ayodhya, and you will hear Adipurush songs in every corner."
Muntashir, who recently received the National Award for Best Lyricist for his contributions to the 2022 film Saina, expressed that he has apologized multiple times for the shortcomings of Adipurush. He emphasized, "Forgiveness has been granted, but do not challenge the songs. They were filled with devotion, dedication, and poetic essence. I did not write nursery rhymes or qawwalis for Ram. The audience is wise and knows the value of each work. Jai Shri Ram."
Manoj Muntashir Shukla (@manojmuntashir) October 28, 2026
The cast of Ramayana also includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The first part of the film is set to be released globally in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
