Manoj Bajpayee's Upcoming Film

Manoj Bajpayee is gearing up for his role in Governor: The Silent Saviour, directed by Chinmay Mandlekar. This marks the second time Bajpayee and Mandlekar have collaborated, following their work on the comedy film, Inspector Zende. In a recent interview with a prominent news anchor, Mandlekar shared insights into Bajpayee's unique approach to embodying his characters. Bajpayee also discussed the necessity of distancing himself from family while portraying serious roles.

Chinmay Mandlekar On Manoj Bajpayee’s Acting Process

During an engaging conversation, Chinmay Mandlekar expressed how Bajpayee's behavior on set was unexpected. Mandlekar noted, “Creating the film's era, visuals, and overall look required significant effort. Our initial challenge was ensuring Bajpayee's appearance was authentic. We had reference images, but we needed to go further. We shot two films back-to-back; the first being the light-hearted Inspector Zende, where Bajpayee was the life of the party. However, when we transitioned to Governor, the atmosphere shifted.”

He elaborated further, stating, “On set, Bajpayee would remain quiet after each take, leading my team and me to question if something was amiss. I soon realized this was his method; he holds onto his character until the filming concludes. This level of commitment is rare among actors, and it was a remarkable transformation. He even practiced Tamil for his role.”

Manoj Bajpayee On Staying Away From Family During Filming

Renowned for his exceptional talent, Manoj Bajpayee has portrayed a variety of roles throughout his career. In Governor, he takes on the character of RBI governor A Ramanan, who played a crucial role in preventing India's economic collapse in the 1990s. When asked about the challenges of portraying such a serious character, Bajpayee remarked, “My family has grown accustomed to my process. While it’s easy to claim that I leave my character behind, the truth is that it lingers. At home, I still have responsibilities, but I can’t fully detach from the role. I prefer staying in a hotel during these intense shoots.”

Interestingly, this approach was suggested by his wife, Neha. Bajpayee explained, “She advised me to maintain distance from our daughter, who may not grasp the demands of my role. It could be confusing for her if I seem distant at home. My passion for acting drives me; I feel fulfilled when performing, especially in challenging roles. Being in character is something I truly enjoy.”
