Mammootty Receives Prestigious Padma Bhushan Award
Malayalam film icon Mammootty, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998, has now been honored with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, this year. Accompanied by his family, including wife Sulfath, daughter Surumi, and son Dulquer Salmaan, he attended the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the award. This moment marked a significant occasion for the family as they witnessed the Bramayugam star receive the Padma Bhushan during the second phase of the Civil Investiture Ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026.

The award was given to Mammootty in recognition of his contributions to the arts from Kerala. His son Dulquer was seen enthusiastically supporting him from the audience. Dressed in a classic beige bandhgala and a white handkerchief, Mammootty greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with folded hands before accepting the Padma Bhushan from President Murmu.

Mammootty and his family were warmly welcomed by fans upon their arrival in the capital. Other notable personalities, including Tamil actor R Madhavan and Bollywood singer Alka Yagnik, are also set to receive honors from the Indian government. Additionally, the late actor Satish Shah will be posthumously awarded the Padma Shri, with his cousin Arvind Mamania accepting the award on his behalf.
Throughout his illustrious five-decade career, Mammootty has made significant contributions not only to Malayalam cinema but also to Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films, amassing over 400 films across various genres. His accolades include three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and eleven Kerala Film Critics Awards.
Mammootty's Upcoming Projects
This year, Mammootty starred in the thriller Patriot alongside his close friend Mohanlal and made a cameo in Chatha Pacha as Bullet Walter Lopez. His future projects include Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Padayaatra, which he is also producing, and OM: Chapter 1, where he will share the screen with Dhanush and Sai Pallavi in this Tamil action thriller. There are also rumors of his involvement in a sequel to the 2007 film Bilal.
