Actor Mahendran, recognized for his performance in Lokesh Kanagaraj's film Master alongside Thalapathy Vijay, has spoken out regarding the backlash from his recent comments about frequent power outages in Chennai. He clarified that the short video clips circulating on social media misrepresented his statements, taking them out of context and resulting in public trolling. Mahendran emphasized that his remarks were not politically charged and that he does not affiliate with any political party. His goal was to address the issue of electricity shortages and propose solutions, including the adoption of solar energy.


Clarification on 'Solar System Power Cut' Remarks


In his statement, Mahendran explained that the viral clips did not accurately reflect his complete thoughts and were misleadingly linked to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. He noted that the edited versions circulating online led to misconceptions about his true intentions.

The actor reiterated that his comments were not politically motivated and that he does not represent any political party. He elaborated on his original message, recalling how Cochin International Airport in Kerala operates entirely on solar power, which inspired him to question why similar systems are not implemented in Tamil Nadu. He mentioned a previous initiative by then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to install solar panels on homes to benefit the public. Mahendran expressed regret if his words caused any confusion or offense, stating, "If my words have caused any misunderstanding or hurt, I sincerely apologise. If necessary, I am ready to apologise again."

In a widely shared clip, Mahendran discussed the power outage situation in Tamil Nadu, questioning, "Will the power shut down? They have invented something called a solar system. Has anyone tried it?"

He urged the public to adapt, asking if they had been enjoying uninterrupted power for an extended period. Additionally, he advised against questioning the new government for six months, stating, "Take the power even from my house. If you stand in front of a microphone and ask why this happened, will the power come back immediately? How long will you keep asking questions? Only when you stop asking questions will you get an answer." Following the release of the video, it sparked significant backlash online.
