Madras High Court Approves U/A Certification for Vijay's Anticipated Film 'Jana Nayagan'
Court Ruling on 'Jana Nayagan'
Chennai: The Madras High Court has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a U/A certificate for the upcoming film Jana Nayagan, featuring actor-turned-politician Vijay.
On January 7, the court had reserved its decision regarding a petition that requested the CBFC to classify the film under the 'UA 16+' category.
During a hearing on January 6, Justice P T Asha requested the CBFC to present a copy of a complaint alleging that the film could potentially 'hurt religious sentiments.'
The filmmakers indicated that the movie was sent for 'review' following an initial recommendation for U/A certification.
Although the film is scheduled for release on January 9, the Censor Board clarified that it can only proceed legally once the certification is granted.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features a talented cast, including Vijay, Prakash Raj, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju.
The production team completed all necessary work and submitted the film for censorship on December 18.
On December 19, the censor board, after viewing the film, suggested the removal of certain scenes and the muting of specific dialogues.
Despite implementing the recommended changes, the production house has reported that the censor certificate has yet to be issued.
