Madhur Bhandarkar Launches 'The Wives' in Mumbai
Mumbai, July 8: Renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, celebrated for his National Award-winning works such as Chandni Bar, Page 3, and Fashion, has officially commenced production on his latest film titled 'The Wives' in Mumbai.
This film was previously announced earlier this year and features a talented cast including Sonali Kulkarni, Mouni Roy, Regina Cassandra, Rahul Bhatt, Saurabh Sachdeva, Arjan Bajwa, and Freddy Daruvala.
Bhandarkar, a Padma Shri award recipient, is known for his unflinching portrayals of societal issues. With 'The Wives', he aims to delve into the intricate world of Bollywood, revealing the hidden truths behind its glamorous exterior.
In discussing the film, Bhandarkar expressed, “With ‘The Wives’, I intend to uncover another glamorous layer of society and reveal what truly exists beneath. This film will provide a bold and unapologetic perspective on the secrets, challenges, and resilience of women who are often visible yet unheard.”
The filmmaker has a reputation for exploring the stark realities that lie beneath the surface of glitzy lifestyles, having been a pioneer of realistic cinema before Anurag Kashyap took over that mantle. With years of storytelling that confronts conventional norms, Bhandarkar seeks to illuminate the struggles and social dynamics of an industry he intimately understands.
'The Wives' also represents Bhandarkar's second partnership with producer Pranav Jain of P J Motion Pictures, following their successful collaboration on the acclaimed project India Lockdown, which resonated with audiences through its direct-to-OTT release.
