Controversy Surrounding 'Dhurandhar 2'

'Dhurandhar' has garnered attention for its incorporation of classic tracks such as Monica, Oh My Darling, Aari Aari, and Hawa Haw. The remixed versions of these nostalgic songs have added a vibrant touch to the film's action sequences. However, the sequel's song Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) has sparked legal issues, as filmmaker Rajeev Rai from Trimurti Films has initiated a lawsuit against the production team and Jio Studios for allegedly using his song Tirchi Topiwale without authorization. Rai has made serious accusations against Aditya Dhar and his crew, labeling them as "thieves."

Update on the 'Oye Oye' Controversy

Recently, the Delhi High Court has advised both parties to avoid escalating the situation. As reported by Bar and Bench, Rai expressed his intention to refrain from making further media comments after labeling the 'Dhurandhar 2' team as 'thieves' regarding the use of Rang De Lal (Oye Oye). The court has documented this agreement and requested that neither side intensifies the conflict until the next hearing. In a recent interview, Rai shared that he was taken aback when he discovered his song was featured in the film without his consent. He mentioned that while the producers might have thought they had the rights, he was initially unsure how to respond. Ultimately, he recognized the necessity of pursuing legal action since he had not authorized the song's use in another film.

Rai's Accusations Against 'Dhurandhar 2'

Rai described the situation as theft, stating, "This is a theft. Yeh poori chori ban jaati hai. Aur aap isko dusri picture mein dalte hai alter kar ke, toh woh double chori hai," in an interview with DNA India. For those unfamiliar, Oye Oye is a reimagined version of Tirchi Topiwale, which was originally featured in the 1989 film Tridev, directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by his father, Gulshan Rai. The film starred notable actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Sonam, Sangeeta Bijlani, Anupam Kher, and Amrish Puri. Rai characterized the situation as intricate, noting that copyright and creative rights issues can be challenging for many to grasp. He emphasized his goal of clarifying the legal missteps involved so that the public understands why the case has escalated to court. As of now, Dhar and Jio Studios have not provided any official response to the matter.
