Labrinth's Departure from Euphoria

Recent weeks have highlighted tensions between composer Labrinth and the hit series Euphoria. The much-anticipated third season is set to premiere on April 12 on HBO and HBO Max, with a delayed release in India on April 15 via JioHotstar. However, it was announced earlier this week that Hans Zimmer will be the sole composer for this season, having joined Labrinth as a co-composer back in 2025. Following this news, Labrinth expressed his discontent, stating he was "out" and criticized both Euphoria and his record label, Columbia. In a recent social media update, he suggested he faced mistreatment from the show's producers.

Labrinth's Statement on His Exit

After deleting many of his previous posts, Labrinth has clarified his reasons for stepping away from Euphoria Season 3. He has been a part of the HBO series since its inception and even earned an Emmy Award for his contributions. In an Instagram Story, he revealed that he felt mistreated by the show's staff, stating that dishonesty is rampant in the music industry. He expressed a desire for his music to be removed from the series, claiming that he and HBO parted on good terms. However, he emphasized, "I left because – last truth – when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me but I don’t let people treat me like shit."

Labrinth appears to be moving forward, as he is scheduled to perform at Coachella on April 11, just a day before Euphoria's US premiere. During his last performance, he featured lead actress Zendaya. The festival will also showcase the first episode of Euphoria exclusively.

Insights from Sam Levinson on Euphoria's Music

In a conversation with Rolling Stone, creator Sam Levinson expressed uncertainty about the fallout between Labrinth and the production team. He acknowledged Labrinth's significant role in shaping the sound of Euphoria. Levinson explained his decision to bring in Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer for the new season, stating that each character's arc resembles a film. For this season, he aims for a more traditional Hollywood Western score, focusing less on popular music and more on a cohesive auditory experience.

In this upcoming season, the characters will return after a five-year time jump, transitioning from high school to new life challenges.
