Kunal Om Discusses Flamenco Choreography in Vishal Bhardwaj's O’ Romeo
Exploring the Spanish Essence in O’ Romeo
Vishal Bhardwaj’s film O’ Romeo is set against the vibrant backdrop of Spain, where key scenes take place. The film's antagonist, Jalal, portrayed by Avinash Tiwary, is central to the narrative. The film captures the spirit of Spain through elements like bullfighting and the elegant Flamenco dance, maintaining authenticity throughout. Choreographed by Kunal Om under Bhardwaj's direction, this marks Kunal's debut in Bollywood with the Flamenco sequences.
Kunal Om Reflects on Collaborating with Avinash Tiwary
In an exclusive chat, Kunal praised Avinash for his dedication and talent. He noted, “Avinash is incredibly talented and remains eager to learn, despite his success. He invested significant time into understanding the dance form's cultural roots, which made the process rewarding. My goal was to keep the choreography authentic, avoiding any dilution from outside influences. Working with Avinash was a fantastic experience.”
Kunal further expressed his appreciation for Bhardwaj's clear vision, stating, “Vishal ji was very supportive and provided valuable insights that helped me align with his artistic vision. It was a wonderful experience for my first Bollywood project.”
Kunal Om Aspires to Work with Shahid Kapoor
Although Shahid Kapoor, the film's lead, did not participate in the Flamenco dance, Kunal expressed his desire to collaborate with him in the future. He remarked, “I didn’t get to work with Shahid this time, but I hope to in the future. He is an exceptional dancer and has a natural flair for it. His journey began as a dancer, and I admire his style and attitude. I look forward to the opportunity to choreograph for him someday.”
In addition to the Flamenco dance that was ultimately cut from the final edit, Kunal has also choreographed various other dance sequences set in Spain.
