Major Setback for Kunal Kamra

Kunal Kamra Faces Backlash as BookMyShow Removes His Content Amid Controversy

In a significant development for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, the online ticketing service BookMyShow has removed all references to him from its platform as of Saturday.

This decision was met with appreciation from the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, who expressed gratitude towards Big Tree Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the parent company of BookMyShow, for this action.

The removal followed a request from Rahool N Kanal, the Shiv Sena's youth leader and social media head, who urged BookMyShow to stop promoting Kamra's events.

In a letter dated April 2, Kanal emphasized that allowing ticket sales for Kamra's shows could be interpreted as endorsing his controversial statements, which he believes could disturb public peace in Mumbai.

Kanal thanked Big Tree Entertainment for their prompt action in removing Kamra from their listings and even from the search history on BookMyShow.

He stated, "We appreciate your efforts to maintain a clean platform by excluding artists with personal agendas, as we Mumbaikars cherish all forms of art that promote unity."

Kanal's earlier correspondence highlighted that BookMyShow had previously facilitated ticket sales for Kamra's performances.

He accused Kamra of engaging in a prolonged campaign of slander against various political figures, including the Prime Minister and state leaders, suggesting that these actions are part of a larger conspiracy beyond mere comedy.

Kanal further claimed that Kamra's provocative remarks have consistently breached ethical and legal standards, potentially inciting public unrest.

He warned that by hosting Kamra, BookMyShow could inadvertently support an individual whose actions threaten the social fabric of Mumbai, a city known for its diversity.

This controversy intensified after Kamra referred to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a traitor in a recent performance.

Currently, three legal cases are pending against Kamra, although the Madras High Court has temporarily shielded him from arrest.

The police are in the process of gathering statements from the crew present during the filming of Kamra's show.

They have assured Kamra's safety during questioning, yet he has not yet complied with three summons issued by the Mumbai Police.
