On Wednesday, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, the Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, emphasized the government's dedication to empowering tribal youth via sports during her visit to the first-ever Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026.


Khelo India Tribal Games Overview

The inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 is taking place from March 25 to April 3, across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Sarguja. This event unites tribal athletes from all over the nation, offering them a prestigious platform to display their skills.


Engaging Tribal Youth in Sports

During Day 8 of the Games, Khadse spoke about the initiative's goal to engage tribal youth in sports. She stated, "The Khelo India Tribal Games are organized in Raipur to actively involve young individuals from tribal backgrounds in sports, aiming to enhance participation among tribal youth."


Talent Scouting and Development

Khadse pointed out that the event serves not only as a competitive platform but also as a vital opportunity to discover emerging talent from remote areas. Athletes showing exceptional promise will receive structured training at government-run institutions. She remarked, "This initiative focuses on the comprehensive development of youth through sports, ensuring that deserving players are nurtured and promoted."


National Efforts for Youth Development

Khadse referenced broader national initiatives, mentioning comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha about efforts to combat Naxalism. She noted that improved security conditions create new opportunities for youth development. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government is collaborating across various ministries to direct the energy of young people towards positive pursuits like sports.


A Grand Inaugural KITG

The first edition of KITG has attracted approximately 3,800 participants, including athletes, coaches, and officials, competing in 9 sports disciplines. This includes 7 medal sports and 2 demonstration sports, with a total of 106 gold medals available. The event's mascot, 'Mor Veer', represents the courage, pride, and valor of India's over 700 tribal communities.
