Controversy Surrounding KD: The Devil's Song

The uproar regarding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil has escalated significantly due to its provocative lyrics and visuals. Featuring Nora Fatehi alongside Sanjay Dutt, the track has drawn considerable criticism online, prompting its removal from YouTube. In light of the controversy, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clarified that the song was never submitted for their approval. The board's chairperson emphasized that content on digital platforms does not require their certification, advising that concerns should be directed to the creators and the streaming service.

CBFC's Official Statement on the Controversy

The chairperson of the CBFC has firmly addressed the rising concerns regarding Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke. The board confirmed that they have not received any requests for certification for the song from KD: The Devil. They noted that there is often confusion surrounding content released on digital platforms, clarifying that such material is not subject to their certification process. The statement highlighted the board's commitment to responsibly evaluating cinema and the representation of women in films.

Furthermore, the CBFC stated that online content does not need their certification unless it is submitted for theatrical release. They reiterated that they are often drawn into discussions that fall outside their jurisdiction. This clarification aims to clear up any misconceptions regarding the certification process and to distinguish between social media content and theatrical approvals. The board urged that all concerns about the song should be directed to the creators and the relevant digital platform.

Backlash Against Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke

Released on March 15 in various languages, the song quickly gained popularity but soon faced backlash for its suggestive lyrics and choreography. Users on social media voiced their objections, leading to the decision by the makers of KD: The Devil to remove the track from public access on YouTube, switching it to private mode.

As a result, the video now shows an “unavailable” message. The issue has garnered attention from numerous organizations and public figures, further fueling the debate. Notable personalities, including actors and representatives from the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), as well as Kangana Ranaut and Armaan Malik, have expressed their concerns regarding the song's portrayal.
