Bollywood's Ongoing Debate on Work-Life Balance

Last year, the demand for an eight-hour work shift by Deepika Padukone during the filming of Spirit ignited significant discussions within Bollywood. Following her request, Deepika was replaced by Triptii Dimri, which led to a broader dialogue about the work-life balance for actors, particularly those who are new mothers. Prominent figures like Ajay Devgn and Rani Mukerji shared their insights on the topic. Recently, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ananya Panday have also expressed their thoughts on this important issue.

Kareena Kapoor's Perspective on Work Hours

Kareena emphasized that married women with children should feel empowered to communicate their available work hours clearly. She believes it is essential to establish these boundaries before a project starts and to be transparent about one's working capacity. She acknowledged that while plans may sometimes change, maintaining a level of flexibility and openness is crucial.

Ananya Panday Supports Deepika Padukone

Ananya, who collaborated with Deepika in Gehraiyaan, remarked that a woman's choices often reflect her current life stage. She pointed out that societal beliefs suggesting women cannot work post-marriage or childbirth overlook the importance of a supportive environment. Ananya noted that circumstances can evolve over time.

Reflecting on her experiences with Deepika before motherhood, Ananya stated that she never witnessed Deepika making any special demands. She praised Deepika for her dedication, attending workshops and working diligently like her peers. However, Ananya acknowledged that it is natural for Deepika to desire more time with her child now that she is a mother.

In reference to Kareena, Ananya highlighted that Kareena has set a commendable example for women in the industry by continuing her career after becoming a mother. She believes it is entirely reasonable for actors to communicate their needs to producers and seek a balance that works for them. Ananya concluded that such discussions should be private and adaptable, with no rigid expectations on work commitments.

Deepika herself addressed this issue last year, asserting that her request was justified, noting that male stars have long been able to make similar demands without question.
