Kangana Ranaut Takes Legal Action Against AI-Generated Obscene Content
Kangana Ranaut's Legal Battle Against Defamatory Content
Bollywood star and MP Kangana Ranaut has filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court aimed at eliminating AI-generated content that she claims is obscene and defamatory. The petition, submitted on Thursday, argues that such material infringes upon her personal rights.
Ranaut’s legal team emphasized that their focus is on content that is explicitly obscene or misattributed to her, clarifying that they are not pursuing action against satirical memes or commentary. Their primary concern lies with serious cases of impersonation and harmful digital manipulation.
Court Proceedings and Broader Legal Implications
After reviewing the petition, Justice Vikas Mahajan issued summons to the defendants involved in the case, indicating that an interim order may be forthcoming. This hearing aligns with another lawsuit from Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda, who is also defending his personality rights. Deverakonda's representatives claim that his image has been exploited without consent, including unauthorized merchandise sales and AI-generated posts that misrepresent his endorsements.
Ranaut's legal action highlights a rising trend among celebrities seeking court protection for their digital identities. Recently, several high-profile individuals, such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, have approached the High Court with similar grievances regarding the misuse of their images. Other notable personalities, including spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and cricketer Abhishek Sharma, have also sought legal recourse, with the court granting them interim relief.
On the work front, Ranaut was last seen in the film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, directed by Manoj Tapadia and released in June. The film received acclaim for its depiction of the medical personnel who responded to the 2008 Mumbai attacks at Cama Hospital.
