Kangana Ranaut Backs Deepika Padukone's Shift Demand Amid Controversy
Kangana Ranaut Supports Deepika Padukone's Work Choices
Kangana Ranaut has finally addressed the ongoing debate regarding Deepika Padukone's request for an eight-hour work shift. The actress and BJP MP expressed her support for Deepika's stance, emphasizing the evolution of women's roles in the industry. She acknowledged Deepika's hard work and her right to dictate her working conditions. Due to her request, Deepika had to step away from the film Spirit, featuring Prabhas, as well as the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.
Kangana's Perspective on Deepika's Choices
In a recent podcast, Kangana highlighted that Deepika, now a mother and one of India's leading actresses, deserves to set boundaries on her work hours. She stated, “She has earned that place,” urging others to respect her decisions. Kangana reminisced about a past conversation with Deepika when they both used to work long hours. During a shoot with director Imtiaz Ali, Deepika mentioned her 12-hour shifts, to which Kangana replied that she preferred a 10-hour schedule. “There was a time when we wouldn’t settle for anything less than 12-14 hours,” she noted, reflecting on their ambitious early careers.
Kangana elaborated that new actors often face immense pressure to prove themselves, as they can be easily replaced. However, once they achieve success, they gain more control over their schedules. She pointed out that expecting women to juggle long hours with family responsibilities can be excessively challenging.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone made headlines for her decision to leave Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, reportedly due to her request for an eight-hour workday. She also exited the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, with producers indicating that the project demanded a greater commitment. Deepika later spoke out about gender bias in the industry, stating, “If that is seen as being pushy, then so be it,” while noting that many male actors have been working eight-hour shifts for years without facing backlash.
Looking ahead, Deepika is set to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan in the upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The trio previously worked together in Pathaan. Additionally, she will star alongside Allu Arjun in Atlee's Raaka, with the first look revealed on the occasion of the Pushpa actor's birthday.
