Thug Life's Disappointing Performance

The much-anticipated collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan has not met expectations, as their film Thug Life is on track to become a significant box office failure, potentially marking one of the lowest points in Kamal Haasan's illustrious career.

Reports indicate that multiple screenings of the Tamil film were canceled over the weekend, including a notable cancellation of the Hindi dubbed version's 3:45 PM show at the MGF theatre in Gurgaon.

The theatre reported no audience attendance for the show.

A young Tamil actor, who is a devoted fan of Kamal Haasan, expressed disbelief at the situation, stating, "It's unbelievable that after more than thirty years, this is what they produced together?"

Another Tamil-Hindi superstar, who idolizes Kamal Haasan, shared feelings of disappointment, saying, "I am not alone in this; countless fans expect more from Kamal Sir. If this had come from a lesser-known actor, it might have been more forgivable, but not from the duo that brought us Nayakan."

Following the trailer's release, there were significant concerns regarding the age difference between Kamal Haasan and his leading ladies, Abhirami and Trisha Krishnan. Additionally, Kamal Haasan's remarks about Karnataka's linguistic history led to the state imposing a ban on Thug Life.

Roshan Singh, a prominent film exhibitor in Bihar, commented, "Even without the ban from Karnataka, Thug Life was destined for failure. It was essentially dead on arrival. The theatres in Bihar had to cancel shows the day after its release. This marks two consecutive flops for Kamal Haasan, following Indian 2. Mani Ratnam must quickly find a way to reinvent himself."
