Kajal Aggarwal Reflects on Work Hours Post-Motherhood
In an interview with Variety India, Kajal Aggarwal discussed how her priorities have shifted since becoming a mother. She emphasized the significance of maintaining a work-life balance and how she now organizes her schedule to prioritize family time. "My priorities have changed, and it has become more challenging. I want to rush home at a specific hour," she stated.
Kajal mentioned that she includes work-hour limitations in her contracts, preferring to work only one shift a day, which typically lasts around nine hours. "I ensure that I write that down in my contract. I do one shift a day, which is approximately nine hours," she explained. However, she also recognized that the film industry can be unpredictable, with delays and unexpected challenges often arising. "In our industry, sometimes there are extraneous factors that are out of anyone's control, and you have to be flexible," she added.
During the same discussion, Kajal compared her experiences in the South film industry with Bollywood. Having started her career in South cinema, she expressed a greater sense of comfort in that environment. "We don't work beyond nine hours. I am a little more biased toward the South industry because that is where I started my career, and there is a certain comfort level that I don't enjoy in Bollywood," she noted. Kajal also commended the professionalism she has encountered in the South film industry, highlighting the respect afforded to women.
Understanding the Spirit Controversy Involving Deepika Padukone
The debate over fixed working hours was reignited by Deepika Padukone's reported departure from Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Allegedly, the disagreement arose from various contractual demands, with Deepika seeking a remuneration of Rs 20-25 crore, a 10 percent share of the film's profits, and a strict eight-hour work schedule.
While neither party has publicly clarified the reasons for the negotiation breakdown, reports indicate that differing professional expectations and working conditions were significant factors. The situation intensified following Deepika's exit, as Sandeep Reddy Vanga posted a cryptic message on social media, which many interpreted as directed at the actress. Without naming anyone, he accused an unnamed actor of breaching trust, leaking information to the media, and engaging in what he termed "dirty PR games" against her replacement, Triptii Dimri.
