Eunseok's Controversial Social Media Post


K-pop stars often find themselves under intense scrutiny, where even minor errors can lead to significant backlash. Recently, Eunseok, a member of the group RIIZE, became embroiled in controversy after a social media post attracted criticism from fans globally. This incident placed him in a challenging position, particularly among international audiences, prompting him to issue a public apology. In his statement, Eunseok recognized his error and expressed remorse, vowing to be more cautious in the future.

The controversy erupted on May 5 when Eunseok posted a childhood image on the fan platform Bubble to celebrate Children’s Day. In the now-deleted post, he referred to himself using the term 'kkamdungi,' a Korean word criticized for its derogatory racial implications. Although the post was swiftly removed, screenshots began circulating online, igniting backlash across various social media platforms.



Fans, especially from international backgrounds, quickly highlighted the problematic nature of the term. Many emphasized that such language, regardless of intent, carries significant historical and cultural implications that should not be overlooked.


Eunseok's Apology and Group's Future Plans

In response to the backlash, Eunseok addressed the issue on Bubble on May 6, offering a comprehensive apology. He stated, 'While sharing a childhood photo, I used an inappropriate expression.' He acknowledged his mistake and added, 'I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable due to my poor choice of words. Although I recognized the mistake and deleted the post immediately, I still feel deeply sorry.' The idol expressed his commitment to learning from this experience and ensuring it does not happen again. 'I will think more carefully before I speak and act. I sincerely apologize once again,' he concluded.



Despite the ongoing controversy, RIIZE is set to continue with its scheduled activities. The group is preparing for the release of their second mini-album on June 15, as confirmed by SM Entertainment, which also mentioned that further details regarding the promotional schedule will be shared soon.



For those unfamiliar, RIIZE is a six-member boy band under SM Entertainment, consisting of Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Sohee, and Anton. Former member Seunghan departed from the group on October 13, 2024. The group made their debut on September 4, 2023, with their first single album, 'Get A Guitar.'
