Joseph Vijay's Political Triumph: A New Era for Tamil Nadu
Joseph Vijay's Political Journey Begins
In a significant milestone, Joseph Vijay has made a remarkable entry into the political arena of India. As the votes were tallied on May 4, 2026, his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as a dominant force, leading in over 100 constituencies and reshaping the political dynamics of Tamil Nadu. Prior to his political career, Vijay captivated audiences with his successful films, many of which resonated with family themes, including the notable Thirupaachi. Released in 2005, this film featured Trisha alongside Vijay, whose portrayal of Giri received widespread acclaim. His comedic chemistry with co-star Benjamin was another highlight of the movie.
Insights from Benjamin on Vijay's Political Success
In an exclusive interview, Benjamin shared his thoughts on working with Vijay and the actor's recent political success. Directed by Perarasu in his debut, Thirupaachi was produced by RB Choudary under the banner of Super Good Films. Reflecting on his experience, Benjamin recalled, "I was a newcomer during the filming of Thirupaachi. Many warned me that Vijay sir might not want to work with someone inexperienced. However, I gathered my courage and approached him at AVM Studios. He reassured me, saying, 'I will work with everyone. Just ensure you maintain a good relationship with the director and producer.'" He emphasized that Vijay's humble nature made it easy for newcomers to feel comfortable on set.
Did Benjamin foresee Vijay's electoral success? He expressed optimism but was surprised by the scale of the victory. He extended his best wishes to Vijay in his political journey, hoping he would surpass MGR's legacy. "He is genuinely a good person. I am thrilled he is set to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. While I believed he would win, I didn't anticipate such a significant victory. I hope he achieves even more than Puratchi Thalaivar (MGR), who became Chief Minister later in his career, whereas Vijay sir has this opportunity much sooner," he stated.
Benjamin attributed Vijay's success to the strong support from women voters. "This is monumental. I believe many women and young people voted for him and his party, seeking change. My daughter, who voted this time, shared similar sentiments," he noted. For context, MGR joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the 1950s, leveraging his film career to build a loyal following over the years. After parting ways with M. Karunanidhi in 1972, he founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1977, five years later.
