Joe Root's Remarkable Achievement in Test Cricket
Joe Root, the exceptional batsman of the England cricket team, continues to pile on the runs. Over the past five years, he has amassed an impressive total of 20 centuries. He is now closing in on breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most Test runs and has recently secured a spot alongside him in a notable list.
During the second innings of the third Test match being held at Lord's between India and England, Root reached this significant milestone. In the first innings of this match, he scored a century, helping the home team set a formidable total of 387 runs. This century also allowed Root to set multiple records, and he continues to perform exceptionally in the second innings.
While batting in this match, Root completed 8000 runs in Test cricket while playing at the number four position. Prior to him, only four other batsmen have achieved 8000 or more runs in Tests from this batting position. Virat Kohli, who announced his retirement from Test cricket before the England tour, also batted at number four for an extended period but did not reach this milestone. Kohli has yet to score 10,000 runs in Tests, having accumulated 9230 runs in 123 matches, with 7564 of those runs coming while batting at number four.
Additionally, Root holds the record for the most centuries scored at Lord's, often referred to as the home of cricket, with a total of eight centuries. Following him are England's Michael Vaughan and Graham Gooch, each with six centuries at this iconic venue.
