Jisoo's Met Gala Appearance Sparks Outfit Controversy
Jisoo's Stunning Met Gala Debut
On May 4, Jisoo made a striking impression at the Met Gala 2026, captivating audiences with her floral ensemble. She was accompanied by her Blackpink bandmates, Lisa, Rose, and Jennie, each showcasing their unique styles on the iconic red carpet. While Jisoo garnered significant attention on social media, she soon found herself embroiled in a controversy regarding the return of borrowed outfits. Designer Benjamin Voortmans accused her team of failing to return clothing that had been lent for a photoshoot, casting a shadow over her much-anticipated debut. Following the uproar, Voortmans addressed the situation in an Instagram video, stating that the matter had been resolved.
Understanding the Outfit Controversy
What Sparked the Controversy?
The issue arose when Benjamin Voortmans publicly claimed that Jisoo's team had not returned outfits loaned for a project, which had been sent to South Korea six months prior. Despite multiple attempts to reach out, he expressed frustration over the lack of communication, labeling the situation as "unprofessional." His comments quickly gained traction online, igniting a debate among fans. While some were taken aback by the allegations, others defended Jisoo, emphasizing that such matters are typically managed by her team rather than the artist herself.
Designer Clarifies His Position
Clarification from Benjamin Voortmans
On May 6, Voortmans released a series of videos on Instagram to clarify his earlier statements. He addressed the backlash he received for his comments, explaining that his intention was not to personally accuse Jisoo but to prompt a response from her management team. He stood firm, stating, "Not getting a response for 6 months and not respecting us is terrible. So I will not be saying sorry." He confirmed that steps were being taken to resolve the issue, including arranging for a representative to retrieve the outfits, reiterating that the core problem lay in communication rather than any wrongdoing by Jisoo.
Mixed Reactions from Fans
Public Response to the Situation
The incident sparked divided opinions online. While some criticized the management for mishandling the situation, many fans rallied behind Jisoo, pointing out that artists are seldom involved in the logistics of their wardrobe. Voortmans later urged fans to cease the hate directed at Jisoo, clarifying that he respects her and did not intend to target her personally. One fan remarked, "The designer made Jisoo get criticized, and yet he is saying he didn’t attack her. It’s crazy that people bashed Jisoo just because of a trolling video." Another noted, "I guess he had to go this far for everything to get resolved."
Benjamin Voortmans' Full Statement
Voortmans' Full Clarification
"I just wanted to come on here and clarify everything on the Jisoo situation. I think I’m getting a lot of hate on that and a lot of messages, and I just wanted to make everything clear, because I never actually attacked Jisoo. I also put it in the title of the first video that it was the team. I used her name to have a response from the team. So I never intended to attack her, and I don’t condone any hate online whatsoever, but yes, I did use her name because it was a part of the shoot. Her name was everywhere in the mail and stuff, but I never wanted to attack her whatsoever. I just want to make it clear that there is no misunderstanding. The team got back to me, and everything is getting fixed, so we are happy for that. But in the first place, I never wanted to have hate towards her whatsoever. I love what she does. I love what she stands for, and I would never be here just to hate on someone or get clout. This is a really big misunderstanding between me and the fans. A lot of things are getting twisted these days, but her name was dropped, her name was there…but the response from the team was not clear for months and months, and a lot of designers were a part of it. But yeah, everything is getting cleared. I just want everyone to understand that I was getting very emotional about it and that I was very fast with my words, but we’re good now. We can move on to another chapter."
Voortmans is the founder of the Belgian fashion label Judassime, known for its unique and high-value designs. He had sent Jisoo some of his creations for a potential album cover shoot in late 2025.
