Jay Shah Engages with UEFA President Ahead of Champions League Final
Jay Shah's Visit to Munich
New Delhi, May 31: Jay Shah, who serves as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), expressed his pride in representing the cricketing community in Munich, where he had a meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
This meeting took place in anticipation of the UEFA Champions League final for the 2024/25 season, set to feature Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) against three-time champions Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena, which has a capacity of 75,000.
Shah shared on his ‘X’ account, "Honoured to represent cricket in Munich ahead of the @championsleague Final and have discussions with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. It's always valuable to spend time with other sporting leaders as the @ICC expands our sport's global reach."
Since taking on the role of ICC Chairman in December of last year, Shah has been actively visiting various locations to promote and develop new markets for cricket. Shortly after his appointment as the youngest chairman in ICC history, he met with key officials from the organizing committees of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics, as well as outgoing IOC President Thomas Bach in January 2025.
Previously, Shah, who was the Secretary of the BCCI, played a significant role in advocating for cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. In March, he congratulated Kirsty Coventry, who is set to take over as IOC President on June 23, making history as the first woman to hold this prestigious position.
Shah also had the opportunity to meet Coventry when she attended the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final match between India and Australia in Dubai on March 4.
As for the UEFA Champions League final, PSG will be competing for the title for the second time after their previous loss to Bayern Munich in 2020. Meanwhile, Inter Milan is aiming for their fourth Champions League title, following an impressive campaign highlighted by their thrilling semi-final against Barcelona.
This final marks the first occasion since 2012 that a German venue will host the Champions League final.
