Jana Nayagan's Box Office Performance: CM Vijay's Film Faces Monday Decline
Jana Nayagan's Impressive Start and Subsequent Drop
The political action film Jana Nayagan, featuring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has made a significant impact at the box office following a successful opening weekend. However, the film experienced a decline on its first weekday, earning Rs 10.15 crore on Day 5, as reported by trade tracker Sacnilk. Despite this drop, the H Vinoth-directed movie continues to perform well in theaters, with its global earnings surpassing Rs 230 crore. Observers are now keen to see if Jana Nayagan can sustain its momentum and potentially surpass Karuppu to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026.
Box Office Collection Update: A Monday Slowdown
After an impressive four-day run, Jana Nayagan saw a notable decrease in its earnings on Monday. The film's domestic nett collection reached Rs 134.90 crore, with a gross of Rs 157.74 crore in India, while its worldwide total climbed to Rs 233.24 crore. The occupancy rate for Tamil screenings on Monday was recorded at 32.65 percent, with morning shows at 24.62 percent, afternoon shows improving to 29.54 percent, and evening shows peaking at 40.15 percent before settling at 36.31 percent for night screenings. Although a drop was anticipated following a blockbuster weekend, the upcoming weekdays will be critical for the film's long-term success.
Will Jana Nayagan Surpass Karuppu?
Despite its impressive global earnings, Jana Nayagan still has a way to go to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 in India. Currently, Suriya's Karuppu holds the record with a lifetime collection of Rs 198 crore. Jana Nayagan needs an additional Rs 63.10 crore to surpass this figure. The film's ability to achieve this milestone will depend on its performance in the remaining weekdays and during the second weekend.
In response to the mixed reviews, director H Vinoth stated that he prioritizes genuine audience feedback over critical reviews. He expressed skepticism about the reliability of paid reviews and influencer campaigns, emphasizing his openness to honest criticism. Alongside Vijay, the film features a talented cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prakash Raj in key roles.
