Jana Nayagan Surpasses Theri at the Global Box Office
The film Jana Nayagan, featuring Thalapathy Vijay, is making waves at the box office, setting new records despite facing several obstacles prior to its release. This political action drama, directed by H Vinoth, has achieved a remarkable feat by grossing Rs 77.89 crore globally on its opening day. Although it experienced a slight decline on the second day, the film rebounded strongly over its first weekend. Within just four days, it has surpassed Theri in Vijay's list of highest-grossing films and is now close to overtaking Beast as well.
Jana Nayagan's Impressive Box Office Performance
Following a robust opening weekend, Jana Nayagan has garnered an impressive Rs 217.48 crore at the worldwide box office in merely four days. On its fourth day, the film alone collected Rs 32 crore net from 12,107 screenings in India, bringing its total net collection in India to Rs 124.75 crore and gross to Rs 145.98 crore. Internationally, it added another Rs 10 crore, resulting in a total overseas collection of Rs 71.50 crore. This achievement has allowed Jana Nayagan to comfortably exceed the lifetime worldwide gross of Theri, which stood at Rs 158.8 crore. Additionally, it has pushed Thuppakki (Rs 129.7 crore) out of Vijay's top ten highest-grossing films.
The film is now just over Rs 1 crore away from surpassing Beast (Rs 218.69 crore) and approximately Rs 8 crore short of exceeding Master (Rs 225.88 crore), making it likely to climb further in the rankings. Challenges Faced by Jana Nayagan Before Release
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is significant as it marks Vijay's last film before he embarks on a political career. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film's path to release was fraught with difficulties. Initially scheduled for January 9, its release was postponed due to a prolonged certification process. KVN Productions even sought intervention from the Madras High Court for expedited clearance. Ultimately, the CBFC granted the film an A certificate after nearly seven months, requiring 12 cuts, including the removal of profanity. Additionally, the film faced a significant setback when a complete HD version was leaked online prior to its theatrical debut.
