Jamie Lee Curtis Discusses Her Career and Halloween Trilogy

Renowned actress and producer Jamie Lee Curtis, celebrated for her role in the iconic Halloween franchise, recently revealed some intriguing insights about her career during an interview. She expressed gratitude towards producer Jason Blum for playing a pivotal role in revitalizing her career.

Jason Blum's Impact on Curtis' Career

At the SXSW panel titled If Not Now, When, If Not Me, Who? Pivoting and Manifesting, Curtis acknowledged Blumhouse founder Jason Blum, stating, "The only reason I am sitting in this chair today is because of Jason. He is the one who brought back the Halloween movies."

Surprise Plans for the Halloween Trilogy

Initially, Curtis believed that the 2018 installment would be a standalone film. However, she later discovered that the filmmakers intended to create two additional sequels. She humorously noted that had she known from the beginning that it would be a trilogy, she might have hesitated to participate. Curtis also teased Blum about his reputation for being economical, joking, "Jason Blum is notoriously cheap," and questioned how he manages to keep production costs so low.

During the editing phase of the first film, director David Gordon Green revealed that the project was conceived as a trilogy, which surprised Curtis. Seizing the moment, she approached Blum with her ideas, saying, "While we were editing and mixing, David said, ‘You know it’s a trilogy.’ I said, ‘Uh, no.’ So I went to Jason and told him I had some ideas and asked if he could give me a first-look deal or a little development deal." Since Curtis was already set to return for two more Halloween films, she believed Blum would be receptive to her proposal. She sought additional funding to assist filmmaker Russell Goldman in developing the project Mother Nature. Goldman is now part of Curtis’ production company, Comet Pictures, and recently made his feature directorial debut with Sender, which premiered at SXSW. This screening also marked the first occasion Curtis saw the Comet Pictures logo on the big screen.

Upcoming Project: Scarpetta

Additionally, Curtis discussed her forthcoming project, Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell’s crime novels. Initially, she intended to only produce the adaptation. However, after reconnecting with Nicole Kidman, who had previously supported her career, Curtis decided to take on an acting role in the project as well.
