Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced on July 20 that they have initiated a legal process in the United States to uncover the identity of an anonymous social media user accused of disseminating false information about her. This action is part of the agency's firm stance against online harassment, following years of legal battles against malicious commenters.
Agency Confirms Legal Action in the US
As reported by OSEAN, EDAM Entertainment has filed a lawsuit aimed at obtaining identifying details of an account that allegedly posted numerous defamatory messages about IU. The evidence gathered is intended for use in criminal proceedings in South Korea. Since Meta, the parent company of Threads and Instagram, is based in the U.S., the agency has sought assistance from a federal court to access records that could reveal the user's identity, including account details, email addresses, phone numbers, and IP logs.
Numerous False Claims Made Against IU
Reports indicate that the account in question has made over 50 posts over several months, containing false accusations against IU. These allegations include claims that she plagiarized music, despite previous court rulings dismissing such accusations. Other posts have questioned her nationality, suggested connections to Chinese interests, and attempted to undermine her international success by belittling her achievements abroad. The agency has also accused the user of fabricating stories that imply IU manipulated media narratives and public perception.
Serious Allegations Regarding Celebrity Deaths
One particularly sensitive allegation claimed that IU exploited the deaths of celebrities close to her for personal gain. The agency stated that the anonymous account falsely asserted that IU had used the late Sulli, SHINee member Jonghyun, and Kara member Goo Hara for publicity, which they condemned as completely untrue and profoundly disrespectful.
