IU Celebrates Birthday with Generous Charity Donation
IU's Charitable Gesture on Her Birthday
IU embodies the essence of a true princess, and her recent actions only reinforce this sentiment. The talented singer and actress, who is currently receiving accolades for her performance in Perfect Crown, marked her birthday by generously donating 300 million KRW to charitable causes. This act of kindness is part of her ongoing commitment to philanthropy, which she has demonstrated consistently over the years. The donation was made under the name 'IUAENA,' a blend of her name and that of her fan club, UAENA. The funds will aid various groups, including patients in need, children, elderly individuals living alone, single mothers, and those with disabilities.
IU's Significant Birthday Donation
On May 16, IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced her latest charitable contribution. The total donation of 300 million KRW, equivalent to around 200,283 USD, reflects her deep connection with her fans, as it was made under the name 'IUAENA.' This name has become synonymous with her charitable efforts during significant events like her birthday and debut anniversaries. According to the agency, 100 million KRW was allocated to Asan Medical Center, while the remaining funds were distributed among various organizations, including 50 million KRW each to Walking With Us, Milk Delivery to Check on the Elderly, the Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, and Walk Together.
The donations made by IU are set to support numerous humanitarian initiatives. These include aiding financially struggling patients, providing educational and cultural opportunities for children and teenagers, and assisting elderly individuals living alone. Additionally, the funds will benefit vulnerable single-mother households and supply advanced assistive devices for individuals with disabilities.
IU's Philanthropic Legacy
This is not the first time IU has garnered attention for her charitable acts. Earlier this month, she contributed 100 million KRW on Children’s Day to support youth. In the previous year, she donated 200 million KRW for wildfire recovery efforts and to enhance the working conditions of firefighters in southeastern Korea. Her generosity extends to multiple occasions, including Children’s Day, her birthday, and year-end celebrations. On Children’s Day this year, she also donated 50 million KRW to the Korea Child Welfare Association.
Since her debut in 2008, IU has utilized significant milestones to promote kindness through donations and volunteer work. Her reputation as one of South Korea’s most charitable celebrities was solidified in 2019 when she was recognized as the youngest honoree on Forbes Asia’s 30 Heroes of Philanthropy list. Beyond financial contributions, IU is also known for her thoughtful handwritten letters and gifts for child actors she collaborates with on various projects.
