A Stunning Showcase of Indian Craftsmanship

At the 2026 Met Gala, Isha Ambani made a memorable fashion statement, merging traditional heritage with contemporary style. This event marked her sixth attendance, where she aimed to promote Indian artistry on a global stage. This year, she wore an extraordinary piece designed by Gaurav Gupta, notable for its artistic intricacy and impressive scale.

The outfit, a custom saree developed in partnership with Swadesh, elevated traditional couture into a stunning artistic expression. Made with pure gold threads, the drape showcased elaborate, hand-painted designs inspired by Pichwai art, enhanced by intricate embroidery that added depth and storytelling to the attire. A sculptural cape, characteristic of Gupta's work, infused a modern architectural element into her overall appearance.

The craftsmanship was remarkable, with over 25 artisans investing more than 1,200 hours to bring this vision to life. This dedication underscored the commitment to showcasing Indian textiles in a bold, modern context, aligning perfectly with the gala's theme of "Fashion is Art."

Jewellery was crucial in completing Ambani's look, featuring over 1,800 carats of diamonds, alongside emeralds and polki pieces, many of which were heirlooms from her family. The blouse, richly adorned with gemstones, blurred the lines between clothing and jewellery, making it a highlight of her ensemble.

Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, every aspect of Ambani's appearance was thoughtfully curated. A hair accessory reinterpreted the traditional gajra using innovative materials like paper, copper, and brass, crafted by Brooklyn-based artist Sourabh Gupta. Additionally, she carried a distinctive mango-shaped sculpture by Subodh Gupta in a crochet bag, creatively referencing everyday Indian culture. Compared to her past appearances, Ambani's 2026 look felt more unified, harmoniously blending textiles, jewellery, and artistic elements, solidifying her role as a global ambassador for Indian design on one of the most prominent red carpets worldwide.
