Panaji, Oct 9: The Goa Police have initiated a medico-legal case regarding the unnatural death of renowned Bollywood actor Nana Patekar.
This case falls under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and is currently being handled by Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Naik.
Reports indicate that Nana Patekar was transported from his home in Dona Paula to Manipal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police plan to conduct a panchnama, review the post-mortem findings at Goa Medical College (GMC), and gather statements from family members and other pertinent individuals to ascertain the cause of death.
The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding his passing. Should it be determined that he died of natural causes, the case may be closed. Conversely, if any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances arise, further legal measures will be pursued.
Earlier, Dr. Shekhar Salkar from Manipal Hospital stated to the media, “We made every effort, but he was brought in dead, necessitating a police report.”
He also mentioned, “To our knowledge, he had a history of heart issues and was on medication.”
Nana Patekar passed away early Thursday morning due to a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. Medical staff at Manipal Hospital attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes, but he was declared dead at 5:20 a.m.
The post-mortem was carried out on Thursday morning, after which his body was returned to his family for final rites.
Nana Patekar, born on January 1, 1951, was originally named Vishwanath Patekar and hailed from a Marathi family. His father, Gajanan (Dinkar) Patekar, was a textile painter and businessman who passed away when Nana was 28. His mother, Nirmala Patekar (Sanjanabai Patekar), was a homemaker who lived with the actor until her death on January 29, 2019, at the age of 99.
