Inspector Avinash Takes a New Direction
The triumph of Inspector Avinash has paved the way for an exciting new phase for Randeep Hooda and director Neerraj Pathak. While fans anticipated a third season following the release of the second, the creators have announced that the crime drama will evolve into a feature film instead. This decision signifies a notable shift in India's dynamic OTT landscape, where successful streaming series are increasingly making their way to cinemas. The filmmakers believe that the expansive narrative inspired by real-life events warrants a cinematic approach, and production on the film is already underway.
Inspector Avinash Heads to Cinemas
Neerraj Pathak, the director and writer, confirmed this exciting news during a conversation with HT City. He expressed that the overwhelming audience interest in Inspector Avinash Season 3 led to the conclusion that a theatrical release would be the next logical step for the franchise. Pathak elaborated that the story of the real-life officer Avinash Mishra is too grand to be limited to a streaming format. He commended Randeep Hooda’s commanding screen presence, indicating that the character merits a full cinematic experience.
Pathak also mentioned that several storylines are currently being explored for the upcoming film. He revealed that discussions about a film have been ongoing with Randeep Hooda and the actual Avinash Mishra since the series began. They are currently developing three scripts simultaneously and hope to finalize one shortly.
One of the potential narratives is said to focus on the notorious criminal Shriprakash Shukla, whose story was hinted at in the second season. Interestingly, the series itself seemed to hint at this transition from OTT to cinema. In the latest season, Randeep Hooda’s character remarks, "Ispe to puri film banni chahiye," a line that now appears to be a clever nod to the franchise's future.
Pathak further clarified that Inspector Avinash was originally intended to be a theatrical film before it transitioned into a web series to allow for deeper character exploration. However, with two seasons completed and the audience already engaged in the Inspector Avinash universe, the creators feel this is the ideal time to bring the story to theaters before contemplating another season.
