Indresh Malik Discusses His Role in The Pyramid Scheme and Breaks Away from Heeramandi Image
Indresh Malik's Transition from Heeramandi to The Pyramid Scheme
Indresh Malik, known for his portrayal of Ustaad ji in the acclaimed series Heeramandi, has recently captured attention again with his role in The Pyramid Scheme. This new series, available on Amazon Prime Video, features Malik as Divya Jyoti, a character embroiled in the morally ambiguous world of multi-level marketing scams. Following the show's successful launch, the actor shared insights during an exclusive interview, revealing that one of his motivations for joining this project was to redefine the image he established in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production.
Insights from Indresh Malik on His Career Choices
In a candid discussion, Malik expressed his eagerness to collaborate with directors Shreyansh Pandey and Ashish Shukla, as well as the writer, citing their strong storytelling abilities. He mentioned, "When a project revolves around a common man's struggles, particularly set in locations like Haridwar and Rishikesh against the backdrop of a 1990s multi-level marketing scheme, it becomes compelling to be part of it. My primary motivation was to work with TVF."
Malik also shared his desire to move away from the specific image crafted in Heeramandi, stating, "I wanted to explore something different from what was portrayed there. These factors drew me to the role." Initially, he auditioned for the character of Chunmun uncle but ultimately landed the role of Divya Jyoti. Reflecting on his experience, he emphasized the importance of teamwork and positivity in the creative process, noting that negativity can hinder progress.
Exploring Complex Characters
As the conversation progressed, Malik elaborated on the challenges of portraying multifaceted characters in The Pyramid Scheme compared to Heeramandi. He acknowledged that he is increasingly being approached for roles that require depth and complexity, which can be demanding. "The mind plays a significant role in acting. An actor must engage their entire being to embody a character authentically. You need to convince yourself that you are that character, even when reality differs," he explained.
