Indrans Discusses His Tamil Cinema Experience

Indrans, the Malayalam actor currently garnering acclaim for his role in Karuppu alongside Suriya and directed by RJ Balaji, has shared insights into his experiences in Tamil cinema. While many believe this is his debut in Kollywood, film buffs may remember his earlier appearance in Thalapathy Vijay’s Nanban. In a recent interview, the seasoned actor reflected on his time filming Nanban, where he had the opportunity to share the screen with Vijay and collaborate with director Shankar.

Indrans Remembers His Time with Vijay in Nanban

Indrans recounted his experience of working with Vijay during the production of Nanban. In a conversation with Cineulagam, he expressed how significant it was for him to be part of a project featuring such a revered actor. He reminisced about a specific scene where he sat next to Vijay and veteran actor Sathyaraj. Portraying Govindan in the film, Indrans noted that sharing the set with such prominent stars was a pivotal moment in his career. He also acknowledged Vijay’s widespread popularity, emphasizing that he enjoys a robust fan following in Kerala.

In addition to discussing Vijay, Indrans expressed his admiration for filmmaker Shankar, revealing that he had long aspired to work in one of Shankar’s films. He mentioned that Shankar had recognized his performances during a time when he primarily took on comedic roles. The actor shared that the director had seen his previous work and appreciated his unique style. Although he has taken on serious roles, Indrans noted that his comedic timing and voice often lend themselves to lighter characters, which has contributed to his recognition.

Indrans' Role in Karuppu

In Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji and featuring Suriya in the lead role, Indrans portrays Mattancherry Sukumaran, a struggling father from Kerala. Sukumaran travels to Chennai with his sick daughter Binu to seek a liver transplant. Unfortunately, disaster strikes when the jewelry he carries to finance her surgery is stolen. Instead of receiving assistance, he finds himself ensnared and exploited by a corrupt legal system, manipulated by a deceitful lawyer.

During the same interview, Indrans admitted to feeling anxious about acting in a different language, particularly alongside Suriya. He shared that he often feels nervous when working on non-Malayalam films, and Suriya's presence heightened his apprehension. However, he ultimately accepted the role because the character was crafted as a Malayali, which made him feel more at ease with the project.
