Indore Authorities Ban Specific Diljit Dosanjh Songs for Upcoming Concert: What You Need to Know
Concert Restrictions on Diljit Dosanjh's Performance
Officials in Indore have announced a ban on four songs by Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh for his live concert set for November 15. This decision arises from concerns about the lyrics of these songs, which authorities believe could encourage alcohol use and violence, potentially impacting young audience members negatively.
The songs under scrutiny include 'Patiala Peg,' '5 Tara Theke,' 'Jeb Vicho Feem,' and 'Jatt Fire Karda.' The District Child Protection Officer conveyed these restrictions to the concert venue's management after receiving a formal complaint from Chandigarh activist Dr. Punditrao Dharenavar. The communication highlighted that since children over five years old are allowed at the event, the lyrical content of these songs is deemed unsuitable for them.
Legal Background and Further Demands
The directive cites a ruling from the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued in July 2019, which instructed law enforcement in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to take action against songs that glorify alcohol, drugs, or violence during public performances. This ruling emphasized the potential harm such themes could inflict on impressionable youth.
In his complaint, Dr. Dharenavar urged authorities to ensure that these four songs are omitted from the concert's playlist, even if the artist attempts to alter the lyrics. Additionally, he requested that the singer refrain from inviting children on stage during the event. The complaint also called for restrictions on the artist's costume, specifically asking him not to wear bandoliers—crossed silver bullet belts or fake metallic cartridges—during the performance.
