Indian Badminton Stars Claim China Masters Title, Boosting Confidence for Asian Games
Confidence Surge for Indian Badminton Duo
The Indian men's doubles badminton team, consisting of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, expressed that their recent victory at the China Masters has significantly boosted their confidence ahead of the Asian Games. They are determined to continue their rigorous training leading up to the event.
Historic Win at China Masters
The top-seeded Indian pair made a remarkable comeback to secure their first-ever China Masters title, overcoming China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu with scores of 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 at Shenzhen Arena on Sunday.
'A Major Confidence Booster': Satwik
Following their victory, Satwik highlighted that the China Masters has historically yielded positive outcomes for them, especially after facing injuries. He noted, "This tournament has always been good for us. After injuries, we reached the semi-finals in 2024 and the finals last year. Winning here has given us a lot of confidence."
He also reflected on their performance, stating that they adhered to their game plan and minimized errors during the final match. "We executed our strategy well, and today we avoided mistakes, which was a positive aspect of our game," he added.
'A Special Win Ahead of Asian Games': Chirag
Chirag Shetty remarked that clinching the China Masters title before the Asian Games is particularly meaningful and will enhance their confidence as defending champions. He stated, "Winning a title before the Asian Games is a huge boost, confirming that our efforts are on the right track."
Despite their success, Chirag emphasized the importance of remaining focused and committed to their training in the lead-up to the Asian Games. "We will push ourselves hard in the next 10 days and aim to perform at our best during the Games," he said.
A Thrilling Comeback
The Indian duo, who had previously finished as runners-up at the Super 750 tournament, faced a challenging start but managed to secure their second title of the season. The Chinese pair initially dominated the first game, winning 21-11, but Satwik and Chirag responded strongly, winning the second game 21-13.
In the final game, both teams fought fiercely, with the score tied at 17-17. The Indian pair maintained their composure, ultimately winning 21-17 and completing a memorable comeback.
Redemption After Recent Setbacks
This victory provided a sense of redemption for Satwik and Chirag following their disappointing performance at the World Championships in New Delhi just weeks prior. They capitalized on the opportunity presented by injuries to other competitors, leading to their title win.
Although the celebrations were subdued due to ongoing injuries, the joy of victory was evident as Chirag celebrated enthusiastically while Satwik smiled broadly after clinching the decisive point.
This title marks their second win of the 2026 season, following their success at the Singapore Open Super 750 and a runner-up finish at the Thailand Open Super 500.
