How Fashion Education Transformed Shweta Tripathi's Life and Style Choices

New Delhi: Actress Shweta Tripathi recently shared insights on how her experience at a fashion school has significantly influenced her life and outlook.

During a discussion about fashion and trends, Shweta remarked, “While fashion is important, my true passion lies in design, which I studied extensively. Attending NIFT was a transformative experience that reshaped my views on many aspects.”

The actress expressed her interest in current trends but emphasized that she does not feel compelled to follow them.

“I enjoy exploring what's trending, but I don’t feel obligated to adopt every trend. There are no strict rules for me. If I find something appealing, I might try it, but I don’t pressure myself just because it’s popular,” explained Shweta, who holds a degree in fashion communication.

Having started her career in the film industry as a production assistant and associate director, she mentioned that her choices are driven by personal interest. “If I want to try something, it’s simply out of curiosity—like, ‘Let’s see how this looks on me,’” she added.

Shweta also noted that not every trend suits everyone. “There are many trends that may not align with our personal style or physical appearance. If I see something that would look great on my best friend, Mallika Dua, I’ll share it with her. Similarly, if I think my mother-in-law would appreciate it, I’ll pass it along,” she said, recalling her Hindi film debut in 2015 with “Masaan.”

She appreciates her profession for allowing her to explore various characters, each with distinct styles. “For instance, Shikha from Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein has a style that differs greatly from mine, just as Golu from Mirzapur does. Trends also inspire me creatively,” she noted.

Shweta believes that trends can spark innovative ideas for character portrayals. “If I come across something that might suit a new role, I think, ‘This could work for that.’ Trends provide a wealth of creative inspiration, which I find fascinating,” she explained.

She also emphasized the enduring value of classic styles. “Classics remain timeless for a reason. However, I don’t adhere to trends simply because they are deemed fashionable. I make my own choices based on what resonates with me—whether it’s a classic piece or something that fits my mood and comfort. Ultimately, feeling authentic is what matters most to me.”
