Will 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Break Box Office Records in India?
A New Milestone for Spider-Man
The upcoming release of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is set to create a significant impact at the Indian box office, even before it officially hits theaters. This latest installment from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, has already broken advance ticket sales records, outpacing previous hits. Remarkably, it has surpassed 'Avengers: Endgame', setting a new standard for Hollywood films in India.
Current projections indicate that 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has amassed ticket sales exceeding Rs 85 crore for its opening weekend, with over Rs 45 crore generated from pre-sales on its first day alone. These impressive numbers suggest that the film is on course to break the Rs 90 crore gross bookings record established by 'Avengers: Endgame' during its 2019 opening weekend. Industry experts are hopeful that this film could be the first Hollywood release in India to achieve over Rs 100 crore in gross pre-sales by the end of its opening weekend.
Previously, 'Avengers: Endgame' held the record for the highest first-day ticket sales among Hollywood films in India, with around 10.25 lakh tickets sold. Following it were 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' with approximately 5.50 lakh tickets and 'Avengers: Infinity War' with 4.86 lakh admissions. The advance bookings for 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' have shown strong demand across various multiplex chains, especially in premium formats like IMAX and 4DX in major cities, achieving an overall occupancy rate of nearly 39 percent on its opening day.
With its record-breaking pre-sales, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is well-positioned to claim the title of the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India. On a global scale, the film is also anticipated to have one of the largest openings in cinema history. It has already achieved the highest opening day gross for any film in China since 'Avengers: Endgame', bringing in USD 35 million. Projections indicate that it could earn between USD 130 million and USD 150 million by Sunday, marking the best opening for a Hollywood film in China this decade, even surpassing the 'Avatar' series.
Scheduled for release in Indian cinemas on July 30, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' will be available in multiple languages, enhancing its appeal to a diverse audience across the country.
