Why Indian Fans Won't See Spider-Man: Brand New Day in IMAX
Spider-Man: Brand New Day's IMAX Absence in India
Fans eagerly anticipating the new Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland and Zendaya will be disappointed to learn that it won't be screened in IMAX format in India. The highly anticipated release, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set to hit theaters just two weeks after Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is notable for being the first film shot entirely in IMAX. This adaptation of Homer's Iliad will be available in IMAX in most regions globally, and interestingly, Holland and Zendaya also star in Nolan's film.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Won't Be Shown in IMAX in India
Sony Pictures India has confirmed that the upcoming film will not be available in IMAX theaters. In response to a fan's question on social media, the studio clarified that it is opting out of IMAX screenings. Instead, audiences can enjoy the film in premium large-format (PLF) screens for an enhanced viewing experience. Notably, the superhero flick is scheduled to release a day earlier than the global date, on July 30, rather than July 31.
With a slew of major films set to debut in 2026, including Supergirl and Dune: Part Three, the competition for IMAX slots has intensified. Both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are slated for release on December 18, 2026, with the sci-fi sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve securing the coveted screens. Advance ticket sales for The Odyssey began a year in advance and sold out rapidly.
