What’s Next for the King of Pop? Sequel to Michael Jackson Biopic in the Works!
Exciting News About the Michael Jackson Biopic Sequel
In a thrilling development, Lionsgate has confirmed that a sequel to the acclaimed biopic Michael is officially underway. This film, which stars Jaafar Jackson as his legendary uncle, Michael Jackson, wrapped up its storyline after the iconic Bad World Tour, leaving fans eager for more. During a recent earnings call, Lionsgate executive Adam Fogelson revealed that nearly 30% of the sequel has already been filmed, with production progressing rapidly. The upcoming installment is set to delve into Jackson's later musical phases, his experiences at Neverland Ranch, legal battles, and many untold stories from his extraordinary life.
Details on the Sequel
The first film chronicled Michael Jackson's rise from a young star in the Jackson 5 to his reign as the King of Pop, concluding abruptly during the Bad World Tour at Wembley Stadium in London. This ending hinted that the story was far from over, and now Lionsgate has confirmed that a second chapter is indeed on the way. During the quarterly earnings call on May 21, Fogelson mentioned that discussions about the sequel are progressing exceptionally well. According to reports, the studio is optimistic about the new film, believing there is a wealth of captivating material left to explore from Jackson's life and career.
Fogelson also indicated that the sequel might not follow a straightforward timeline. Instead, the creative team is considering a narrative that moves both forwards and backwards in time, highlighting significant moments that were either omitted or only briefly touched upon in the first film. This could include Jackson's Dangerous and Invincible eras, the creation of Neverland Ranch, and various notable personal and professional milestones.
Interestingly, a studio representative noted that around 25 to 30 percent of the sequel has already been filmed, with much of this footage originating from scenes initially planned for the third installment of Michael before creative and legal changes were made. Previous reports suggested that the original ending addressed sensitive allegations against Jackson. However, due to a legal stipulation related to a past settlement with accuser Jordan Chandler, the filmmakers had to alter the ending significantly and reshoot parts of the film. While those controversial scenes were excluded, other unused footage may now find its way into the sequel.
Box Office Success of Michael
The biopic Michael has achieved remarkable success at the box office, debuting with an impressive global total of $217 million. The film has continued to perform well internationally, benefiting from strong audience engagement and positive reviews. In India, Michael grossed approximately Rs 74.32 crore, showcasing its widespread appeal.
