What to Expect from the Upcoming Narnia Film: Release Dates and Competition Insights
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Release Update
Fans eager to see Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will have to wait a bit longer, as the film directed by Greta Gerwig is now scheduled for a global release on February 12, 2027. Following its theatrical debut, it will be available for streaming on Netflix starting April 2, 2027. IMAX preview screenings are set to begin two days earlier, on February 10, 2027. With this shift from its original Thanksgiving release, the question arises: will Avengers: Doomsday seize the opportunity to fill the IMAX slots? Currently, the Marvel film is slated for a December 18, 2026 release, putting it in direct competition with Dune: Part Three, which has already secured all IMAX screens in the US for its first three weeks.
Narnia Delayed: Will Doomsday Capitalize?
Despite the delay, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will enjoy a significant 45-day theatrical run, a rarity for a Netflix film. This adaptation, penned and helmed by Gerwig, is the first to bring the C.S. Lewis classic to the big screen, serving as the origin story for the beloved Narnia series.
Earlier this year, Disney, Marvel's parent company, introduced Infinity Vision, a new premium large format (PLF) certification designed to draw audiences to Avengers: Doomsday. With Dune: Part Three already occupying all IMAX screens in the US, if Doomsday sticks to its current release date, it may need to adjust its strategy. Given that Narnia will open up IMAX screens post-Thanksgiving, could Doomsday consider moving its release date forward by a week to take advantage of this opportunity?
