Rosamund Pike Takes on a Dark Role in 'Feed'

Renowned actress Rosamund Pike is set to star in and produce a new body horror film titled Feed. This intriguing project will delve into the unsettling aspects of digital fame and the ambitions of parents, with Leslye Headland, known for her work on Bachelorette and the Star Wars series The Acolyte, at the helm as director.

The storyline revolves around a mother who resorts to a little-known collagen supplement to help her young gymnast daughter gain influencer status. While they quickly achieve the fame they seek, the daughter begins to experience a disturbing physical change. This narrative draws inspiration from the 2022 Finnish film Hatching, which similarly explored the complicated and often oppressive relationship between a competitive gymnast and her image-obsessed mother.

A Deep Dive into Modern Fame and Motherhood

Pike, known for her roles in films like Gone Girl, Pride & Prejudice, and Saltburn, has long been fascinated by the societal obsession with social media and the relentless pressure for self-improvement. In her comments about the film, she expressed a desire to investigate the quest for fame devoid of traditional talent, as well as the monstrous aspects of contemporary motherhood. She believes that Feed serves as a platform to confront these modern anxieties.

Leslye Headland, the director, described the screenplay as both bold and profoundly human. She commended Pike as one of the most daring actors in the industry today and expressed excitement about collaborating with the production team to explore the darker themes of the narrative. The film is being produced by a diverse team, including Pike through her company Primitive Streak, alongside Shelley Browning from Magnolia Entertainment, Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl from ZQ Entertainment, and Sam Ritzenberg of Agile Films.

Pike's Expanding Portfolio

In addition to her role in Feed, Pike is actively expanding her portfolio of upcoming projects. She has officially joined the cast of Wife and Dog, directed by Guy Ritchie, which will feature a star-studded ensemble including Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch. Currently, there are no updates regarding the production schedule or release dates for these films.
