He was rescued by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and local authorities after fellow paragliders raised the alarm. Following the incident, Richmond underwent successful surgery on June 11 at a hospital in Chandigarh and is currently reported to be in stable condition as he recovers.

According to reports, Richmond was part of a five-member team engaged in a long-distance cross-country paragliding expedition from Bir Billing in Kangra district to the Deo Tibba region. On June 8, he encountered difficulties and crashed in the mountainous area near Deo Tibba, leading to multiple neck injuries. His fellow paragliders quickly alerted local authorities, initiating a coordinated rescue operation.

Richmond was first transported from the crash site to a safer location before being airlifted to Kullu by an IAF helicopter for initial treatment. The next day, he was moved to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, where a team of orthopaedic surgeons and trauma specialists assessed his injuries. Dr. Vijay Goni, the head of orthopaedics at PGIMER, reported that Richmond received immediate care upon arrival, including the application of a hard cervical collar.
