Spider-Man: Brand New Day Takes Theaters by Storm
The eagerly awaited film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, made its debut in cinemas on July 30, marking the second chapter in the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Featuring Tom Holland and Zendaya, the film achieved extraordinary success on its opening day in India, surpassing the box office results of Holland's latest film, The Odyssey, and even the legendary Avengers: Endgame.
As reported by the trade platform Sacnilk, Spider-Man: Brand New Day raked in an impressive ₹60.60 crore net and ₹74.46 crore gross in India on its first day. The film boasted a strong occupancy rate of 72.3% across 17,250 screenings on Thursday. The collection breakdown indicated that the English version contributed ₹32.25 crore net, while the Hindi version earned ₹22 crore. Additionally, the Telugu and Tamil versions brought in ₹3.25 crore and ₹3 crore net, respectively, with the Kannada and Malayalam versions earning ₹3 lakh and ₹7 lakh.
Remarkably, Spider-Man: Brand New Day outperformed the opening day earnings of The Odyssey, which had secured ₹17.40 crore in India upon its release on July 17. Both films received an 'A' rating. Furthermore, the new release surpassed the total box office earnings of the first film in phase six, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which had accumulated ₹38.32 crore in net revenue during its entire run in India last year.
In contrast, the previous phase's Thunderbolts had a lifetime net collection of ₹136.15 crore in India, with an opening day collection of ₹21 crore. Avengers: Endgame, a highlight in the franchise, debuted with ₹53.60 crore in India and ultimately grossed ₹373.05 crore net over its lifetime. As the weekend approaches, industry analysts predict that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will continue to experience a rise in box office earnings.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the 38th installment in the MCU. The film sees Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, alongside a stellar cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
